Have You Heard About The Dangers of Using Chemical Relaxers?

Recently, it has come to our attention that there has been new evidence that suggests the manufacturers of certain, if not all, hair relaxers; knew the possible risks of certain cancers and reproductive issues associated with the use of their products, however, they did not have these possible risks listed anywhere on their packaging nor did they do anything to educate the community which we all know is predominately made up of people of color to the said possible risks.

Hair Plus ME must use its position to always provide valuable, reliable information to the community we serve. This is why, in an act of solidarity and transparency that we share this newly learned information, as well as, provide this link to more information regarding the Hair Relaxer Lawsuit.

What makes this incredibly sad, is that I myself, CEO Amberonie am a victim to what I call another attempt at the genocide of African Americans in America. I myself have been very vulnerable with my venting of the pain suffered after losing several pregnancies, having a hysterectomy, and suffering from endometriosis. Not once in a million years would I ever have imagined that it all "could've" been caused by the perming of my hair.

I remember my mother giving me a perm when I was about 5 years old. At that age; during those times, there was no such thing as "consent" and without knowing any better; I received perms every 4 weeks for years well into adulthood. And what has surprised me, are the stories of several women, all over the world who have recently started sharing their stories about sickness; endometriosis; having a hysterectomy, and more; the one thing we all have common? You guessed it; the use of perms/relaxers!

Sometimes, its nice to know when you aren't the only person suffering or enduring circumstances alone, however, not like this; you would never wish or hope to hear that others, let alone so many, are going through the same battles. It is with great sincerity that I wish anyone and their families who are dealing with these issues nothing but the best. Keep your head high and stay positive beautiful; You are NOT alone!

Hair Plus ME has NOT and will NOT provide hair relaxers or other chemical based products in its store. We stand in solidarity with the community we serve.
